the Australian National University

The Australian National University fosters leading thinkers – and thinking leaders.

Since its inception in 1946, ANU has been building a legacy of inquiry and discovery of which the nation can be proud. Generations of researchers, educators and graduates at ANU have helped propel Australia to the forefront of international thinking in areas like humanities, science, the arts, medicine, law, economics and public policy. As a result, ANU is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world.

ANU is the only Australian member of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), which includes ETH Zürich, National University of Singapore, Peking University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Cambridge, University of Copenhagen, University of Oxford, the University of Tokyo and Yale University. IARU members are researching matters of global consequence, including ‘Movement of People’, ‘Longevity and Health’, ‘Energy, Resources and Environment’ and ‘Security’.

ANU has also founded the National Centre for Biosecurity, the first of its kind in Australia to bring together a large multidisciplinary team to advise government on the potential threats posed by infectious diseases.

But a university’s leadership credentials are also measured by the quality of its graduates. ANU students have gone on to be leaders in many fields, making real contributions towards a sustainable future.
