Australian Leadership Retreat

The Patron of the Australian Leadership Retreat (ALR) is The Rt Hon Sir Ninian M Stephen KG AK GCMG GCVO KBE PC, former Governor-General of Australia.  The invitation-only ALR has been held annually since 1996 on Hayman Island, except in 2000 when the ADC co-hosted the East-Asia Pacific Summit in Melbourne.  The Retreat attracts a cross-section of national and regional leaders from business, government, academia and the community, along with a strong continent of international speakers who are renowned authorities in fields of economics, business, public policy, as well as social issues.  Representation is at CEO, Board and Ministerial level.

Initiatives that have been generated out of the annual ALR include:

  • Future Summit
  • Awareness raising of global climate change and the Great Barrier Reef
  • Jitume poverty reduction and malnutrition program in Tanzania
  • Industry start-up and business self-sufficiency projects in Rwanda
  • Business Leaders' Forum on Climate Change
  • National Infrastructure Summit on policy and direction
